Nigeria Premier League NPFL; Katsina United End Rangers Unbeaten Streak As Lobi Stun Enyimba

Action resumed in the Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL as the 2023/2024 entered Matchday 29.

Matchday 29 produced some exhilarating results with Katsina United bringing Rangers International’s 10-game winning streak to and end.

The Flying Antelopes under Fidelis Illechukwu has been exceptional this season going ten games without losin.

However, a seven-goal thriller at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium that ended 4-3 in favour of the host put an end to the unbeaten run.

Niger Tornadoes recorded the highest win of Matchday 29 as they pummeled relegation threatened Gombe United 5-0 while Plateau United.

Also, Plateau United put struggling Doma United to the sword with a convincing 4-0 win.

At the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Rangers was defeated 4-3 by Katsina United thanks to goals from Azeez Falou, Andrew Idoko, and Michael Ibe, who also had a brace.

For the visitors, goals came from Saviour Isaac, Godwin Obaje, and Joel Odoh. In Lafia, Alao Danbani’s 58th header proved to be the difference as Lobi Stars defeated Enyimba FC by a narrow 1-0 margin to resume their winning ways.

A struggling Heartland FC defeated Sporting Lagos 3-1 at home, silencing the visitors, and Sunshine Stars was held by Bayelsa United at home as both teams split the points.

With three straight victories, the Niger Tornadoes inflicted a crushing 5-0 defeat on Gombe United in Kaduna thanks to an all-around outstanding performance by the Ikon Allah Boys.

While Plateau United defeated Doma United 4-0 on Saturday, Kwara United overcame a goal behind to rescue a 1-1 draw at home against Bendel Insurance.

In Ikenne, Remo Stars defeated Akwa United 2-1. Kano Pillars and Shooting Stars will trade tackles in the final game of match day 29, which is scheduled for Monday.

Meanwhile, Abia Warriors vs. Rivers United has been postponed because of the latter’s engagement on the continent.

A total of 27 goals was scored in Matchday 29 with two games yet to be played.

The game between Abia Warriors and Rivers United was postponed due to the latter involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup while Kano Pillars will on Monday host Shooting Stars.

No away team was able to get a win with only Bendel Insurance and Bayelsa United picking point on the road.
