Serie A AS Roma Owner Hands De Rossi Permanent Contract As Manager

AS Roma owners announced on Thursday that Daniele De Rossi, a former player, will stay as AS Roma’s manager for the upcoming season and the “foreseeable future”.

After Jose Mourinho was fired in January, De Rossi took over a team that was ninth in the league rankings.

His contract was set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

After going seven games without a loss in the league, Roma has moved up to fifth place in the rankings under the former Italy international.

They have advanced to the Europa League quarterfinals as well.

Up against AC Milan, they lead 1-0 going into this Thursday’s second leg.

After meeting yesterday afternoon with Daniele De Rossi, we are delighted to announce he will continue as head coach of AS Roma after this season and for the foreseeable future,” club owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin said in a joint statement.

“In his short tenure as head coach, the positive impact that his leadership has brought to the entire club has told its own story.

“Daniele leads with respect and courage, while his strength and deep-rooted belief in the club are truly aligned with Roma’s values, city and unparalleled fans.”

The duration of De Rossi’s contract was not disclosed by the club.

Roma’s next match is against Milan in the Europa League later on Thursday.

On Monday, they play Bologna in a league match.
