Premier League Aston Villa Keep Champions League Hope Alive With Bournemouth Win

After coming back from behind to defeat Bournemouth 3-1 at Villa Park, Unai Emery’s team maintained their pursuit for Champions League football.

After falling behind by a goal due to a penalty kick by Dominic Solanke in the 31st minute, Villa rallied with goals from Moussa Diaby just before the hour mark, Morgan Rogers in first-half stoppage time, and Leon Bailey in the 78th.

Ollie Watkins, who has 19 goals to his credit and is only one goal behind joint leaders Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer in the Golden Boot competition, set up the finishes for Bailey and Diaby.

Watkins is the Premier League’s leading assist provider with 12.

The outcome solidifies Villa’s hold on fourth position and completes a fantastic few days for the Midlands team, which included victories over Arsenal 2-0 on Sunday and Lille on Thursday via penalty shootout, which advanced them to the Europa Conference League semifinals.

They are six points ahead of fifth-place Tottenham, who have two games remaining, with four league games remaining. Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola remains in 13th.
