However, the two teams immediately above them, Manchester United and Newcastle, both have two games remaining.

In the seventh minute, Michael Olise let loose, and nine minutes later, Eze’s goal had the sun-drenched Selhurst Park crowd going crazy.

Mateta’s attempt was stopped by Hammers custodian Lukasz Fabianski with his right foot, but the ball looped up to Eze, who scored the rebound into the roof of the net.

With a 4-0 lead after a goal by West Ham’s Emerson in the 20th minute, Mateta scored his first of two goals in the 31st, sending manager David Moyes flying out of his technical area to yell at his players.

It was the first time one of his teams have trailed 4-0 in his 693 Premier League appearances as manager.

Before Mateta scored his second goal in the 64th minute, Michail Antonio drew one back in the 40th minute with West Ham’s lone on target attempt.

When Palace custodian Dean Henderson mishandled a pass back from defender Tyrick Mitchell, West Ham was handed a goal in the 89th minute.

Henderson was at fault because, while making a desperate lunge, he let the ball to bounce over his foot and into the net, even though Mitchell was given credit for the own goal.

Compared to West Ham’s four shots, Palace’s 18 (seven on target) and 61.3% possession
