Uganda SC Villa lose ground in title race after draw with Bright Stars

SC Villa’s chance of winning their first Star times Uganda Premier League title in 20 years suffered a major setback on Sunday as they drew 1-1 at home to visiting Bright Stars at Wankulukuku.

Ashraf Mulindi gave Bright Stars the lead on the hour mark before Patrick Kakande levelled matters six minutes later. The result means that Villa stay a firm fourth on the log with 42 points, four behind new leaders BUL, but jittery in the title run-in.Vipers are second on 45 points while Kitara are third on 44 after 24 games.

Bul and Kitara have, however, played a game more than both Vipers and Villa, who are now left with six games to end the season.

At Wankulukuku, Bright Stars went ahead against the run of play when Shafik Kakande went on a mazy run before slipping the ball through for Mulindi to finish on 60 minutes.

Abbas Kyeyune then set up Villa’s John Patrick Kakande to rescue a point six minutes later. The result leaves Bright Stars 10th with 29 points from 23 games.
