Ligue 1 PSG Win Ligue 1 Title For A Record 12th Time

After yet another brilliant domestic season, Paris St. Germain won Ligue 1 for a record-tying 12th time on Sunday.

AS Monaco, in second place, fell 3-2 against Olympique Lyonnais to complete their third consecutive title.

With three games left, PSG leads Monaco by 12 points with 70 points, having squandered the opportunity to win the title on Saturday in a 3-3 draw with Le Havre.

Monaco, who had an early lead, lost to PSG in Lyon, ending whatever slim hopes they had of stopping PSG from winning the championship. This was Monaco’s first loss in nine games.

With just over 20 seconds remaining, Wissam Ben Yedder scored for the visitors, heading home Takumi Minamino’s cross at the back post.

However, goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Said Benrahma put Monaco behind 2-1 in just under 25 minutes.

On the hour mark, Ben Yedder equalised the score once more, heading in a cross that Youssouf Fofana floated into the box.

However, Lyon got a winner six minutes from the end when Malick Fofana scored from outside the area.

Manager Luis Enrique of PSG was unfazed after Saturday’s tie, which kept the champagne on ice, knowing that the title was all but certain due to their far larger goal differential.

The champions started the season slowly but after they gained the lead after matchday 12, they never looked back.

This season, they have only lost one league game, to Nice in September.

Goncalo Ramos’ strike late in extra time helped PSG salvage a point and extend their league unbeaten streak to 26 games after they fell behind 3-1 to relegation-threatening Le Havre.

However, the manager expressed little concern over the outcome.

In what may end up being the team’s best season ever, PSG is still playing in the Champions League and will face Lyon in the Coupe de France final.

Kylian Mbappe, the striker, is leaving at the end of the season and would like to conclude on a positive note.

He has already scored 43 goals this season across all competitions, making it his best season to date.

Though winning the Champions League has long been PSG’s objective, few predicted it during the manager’s first season in charge.

The league title is already assured, and the treble attempt will commence on Wednesday with the first leg of the semifinal matchup against Borussia Dortmund.
