Basket-ball Super Bowl XLVII : Ravens lost Super Bowl trophy on Sunday night

Hours after the Baltimore Ravens were within five yards of losing the Vince Lombardi trophy, the team lost it for real.

Coach John Harbaugh made a passing reference to the disappearance of the Vince Lombardi trophy during a Monday morning press conference.

“We hadn’t seen this (trophy) since last night,” Harbaugh told reporters. “We thought we lost it.”

He evidently wasn’t joking.

Kevin Byrne, the team’s vice president of communication, told The Washington Post that the trophy “didn’t make it to (owner Steve Bisciotti’s) party last night.”

No further information was given about the disappearance. But connect the dots, people. Beyonce used a Vince Lombardi speech to open her halftime show, then gets an invite to the postgame party and the trophy named after the legendary coach doesn’t? “Illumnati,” they whispered.

Frankly, Vince’s trophy could use the cool story. The Super Bowl trophy doesn’t have the history or beverage-holding properties of the Stanley Cup. It’s not as dangerous or fragile as the World Series trophy. And it’s not as boring as whatever NBA teams get. This gives it a distinction besides “retains fingerprint smudges.”
