Nigeria Nigerian Players Performance As Leagues Action Continues In Europe

Following the return of football leagues after the coronavirus pandemic, Europe top leagues have been busy to round watched 2019/2020 season.

Players have been busy playing days-in-days-out for the leagues to be completed before August.

Thanks to the new temporary substitution rules of five players by IFAB which was adopted by all the leagues to avoid fatigues and injuries on players.

There was the involvement of Nigeria players in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A in midweek games.

For Nigeria players in Europe, it remains a busy period as they are helping their clubs in the various top Europe leagues.

On Tuesday in the Premier League Nigeria forward Kelechi Iheanacho and midfielder Wilfred Ndidi were in action for Leicester City who played out a second consecutive stalemate against Brighton.

Iheanacho who came on as a substitute for Albrighton against Watford in 83rd minute was handed a starting jersey by Brendan Rodgers as the Foxes were held to a  goalless draw at the King Power Stadium.

While Ndidi played throughout the game and was booked in the 34th minute Iheanacho played 69 minutes before he was replaced by Harvey Barnes.

In La Liga, Samuel Chukwueze returned to the starting XI and played for 72 minutes for Villarreal who dropped points for the first time since the league restarted as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Sevilla at the Estadio De La Ceramica.

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo completed another 90 minutes for relegation-threatened Leganes.

It was the second consecutive time the former Chelsea defender was handed a starting place at the centre defence having missed the first game post-COVID-19 game.

His compatriot Chidozie Awaziem watched from the bench as Leganes got a second consecutive draw against Granda to keep fighting from being relegated.

Another Nigerian, Ramon Azeez was in the starting XI and played 46 minutes for Granada before he was substituted.

Oghenekaro Etebo was not part of Getafe squad that held Real Valladolid to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night.

The midfielder who scored his first La Liga goal in last weekend stalemate against Eibar picked up an injury during the game.

In Turkey It was a dramatic battle between two Nigerians, Henry Onyekuru who plays for  Galatasaray and Kayode Olanrewaju of Gaziantep FK in a game that ended ended 3-3

Both players played 90 minutes for their various clubs.

In the Italian Serie A, Ola Aina lost his starting XI place in Torino’s 1-0 win against Udinese on Tuesday night.

However, Aina joined the fray in the 65th minute replacing Simone Edera.

But William Troost-Ekong was an unused sub for Udinese.
