Nigerian Players abroad Ekong In Action As Udinese Spoils Juventus Title Party

Super Eagles and Udinese defender William Troost-Ekong said his club deserved the victory against Juventus to spoil their title party.

Udinese produced an excellent performance to put an end to Juventus dominance over them in the Serie A with an emphatic 2-1 victory at home on Thursday night.

Ekong put up a solid and dogged performance in the defence throughout the game as the Little Zebra bounced back and shocked the runaway Serie A Champions.

It was Ekong’s 29th appearance for Udinese this season as the club boosted their chance of avoiding relegation this season.

The Super Eagles defender while speaking with Udinese TV after the game expressed joy over the victory against the Bianconeri.

Juve had wanted to begin the title party at the Dacia Arena after Matthis de Ligt opened scoring in the 42nd minute.

But Ilija Nestorovski equalized for Usinese in the 52nd minute before Seko Fofana completed the comeback deep into stoppage time.

Ekong in his post-match interview said;

I am very happy because these are 3 very heavy points and because I believe that nobody would have bet on us before the game.

“They came here to celebrate and this charged us before the game, today we played with personality and we deserved to win.

The central defender who played on the right in a 3-5-2 formation gave reasons why his manager Luca Goti decided to change his position.

He said; “I better as a central? Yes, I played in the middle for two years but after the lockdown the coach wanted to move me to the right.

“Obviously he decides how we get on the field but I think that from the central defense I can be more useful to the team.

Ekong received a yellow card in the 20th minute after he was adjudged by the referee to have fouled Aaron Ramsey.

The defender felt it was a harsh decision from the referee to show him a yellow card.

Disqualification? In my opinion it was not a foul so heavy as to be a warning but I have faith in the team and I know they can do it even without me.

On the other hand, I hope I can help them in the match against Lecce
 “.

Udinese have now moved up to 15th position on the league table with 39 points from 35 games.
