Ghana CK Akonnor should aim at winning AFCON first – Odartey Lamptey

CK Akonnor has let known in recent days that his main goal is not to win an AFCON for Ghana despite the country’s 38-year drought of a continental trophy.

Ghana Black Stars are running after their fifth Africa Cup of Nations title. But this nothing but a second goal for the new national team coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor, appointed earlier this year following the sacking of Kwesi Appiah.

“I don’t want my main goal to be winning the Africa Cup of Nations. But rather to improving the team. Once the team improves, we’ll get there.” CK Akonnor told star FM at mid-Agust.

However, he should, said former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey.

“Our major objective is to win a trophy so it’s a key agenda for every coach. Every coach has his philosophy but I believe you must have a large pool of players so that in case a player is unavailable, you can easily replace him.” Lamptey said, per Ghanasoccernet.

“It has been a long time since we won a trophy so winning it is important but having a good team will help you during tournaments” he added.
