He is the Tanzanian first to play in the premier league in England. Since then Mbwana Samatta has become an icon in his country.
“Playing in England was the ultimate goal I set for myself at the beginning of my professional career. But more than a goal achieved, it is above all a dream that I fulfilled when I came here. A dream that many Tanzanian footballers are chasing and that had never been achieved before. So I estimate my luck!” He told FIFA.com.
Samatta joined Aston Villa in January 2020 from KRC Genk in Belgium. From now on, the goal is to continue the great competitions with his nation. Like their return to AFCON in 2019 after 40 years of absence.
“This qualification is certainly the best memory of my career. And yet I espect some others wonderful. It was really something special for me and my country.” Recalls the player who went through TP Mazembe.
And why Qatar in 2022? “It would be the climax! I think I would have gone all the way to football. All I have to do is retire.” He says.
