Nigerian Players abroad Troost-Ekong Targets Sky Bet Championship Title With Watford


William Troost-Ekong says he wants to try and win the Sky Bet Championship and then ply in the Premier League next season with his new club Watford.

Troost-Ekong who signed a four-year contract with the Hornets on Tuesday from Udinese spoke with watfordfc.com in his first interview.

The former Bursaspor defender said he was happy when he heard few weeks ago Watford wants to sign him.

He also revealed that he has been waiting for seven years to join the Hornets and also recounted one of his best memory watching Watford play.

I came with him a few times when I didn’t have to play myself,” he told afford media. 

“The best game was probably when Ighalo was on fire against Liverpool. 

“I heard about the interest a few weeks ago and was excited about it. 

“I’ve been waiting for it to happen the last seven days and now I’m excited to be here. 

“I met the lads, there is a good vibe and it’s easy to settle in.”

Africa Top Sports learnt from Watford official website that Troost-Ekong father-in-law will be delighted to see the defender play for the Hornets.

According to watfordfc.com, the Hertford resident has been a staunch supporter of the club for 15 years and even brought Troost-Ekong to a famous game in December 2015.

The experience defender who has played against Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar said he felt he has not achieved anything yet.

He was part of the Nigeria Dream team that won Bronze medal at the 201 Olympics and also captained the Super Eagles to win Bronze medal at the 2019 AFCON Nations Cup.

They were all amazing experiences, particularly getting a medal at the Olympics,” said Troost-Ekong. 

“But I’m not there yet, the best is still to come and I want to try and win the Championship and then play in the Premier League with Watford.”

The defender could make his debut for Watford on Saturday when they travel to play against Reading in the Sky Bet Championship.
