AFCON AFCON: Burkina Faso extinguish Flames of Malawi

Burkina Faso defeated Malawi 3-1 at Stade du 4 Août 1983, Ouagadougou, in a Group B Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played on Thursday night.

The Stallions won the game through Lassina Traore double scored in the second and 26th minutes, plus Bryan Dabo’s 90th minute strike.

Malawi Substitute Gerald Phiri’s scored the consolation from the penalty spot nine minutes to full-time. Phiri had replaced Chikoti Chirwa.

The Stallions remain second in group B with seven points from three games whereas the Flames are third from bottom with three points from three games.

In an earlier other match for the group, leaders Uganda cemented their standing after a 1-0 home win over South Sudan in Kampala on Thursday. Uganda lead Burkina on goal aggregate.

The Cranes have seven points from three games whereas South Sudan anchor the table without a point after three games.
