AFCON MOROCCO: Atlas Lions go top of group E

Morocco went top of group E of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after thrashing Central Africa Republic 4-1 at Stade Mohamed Stadium on Friday night.

It took only 10 minutes after kick off for Morocco to go ahead through Achraf Hakim, before Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech added the second from the penalty spot in the 30th minute.

Ziyech grabbed his double three minutes later. Zakim Abobkal’s late strike sealed the deal for Morocco who the lead the group with seven points.

Morocco have displaced Mauritania on top of the group.

Central Africa Republic host Morocco on November 17 in the return match.

Earlier in the week, Burundi came from behind to force a 1-1 draw on Wednesday in Mauritania.

The return match will take place in Bujumbura on Sunday. Burundi now anchor the table with one point.

Former West Bromwich striker Saido Berahino scored late to hand visiting Burundi a 1-1 draw against hosts, Mauritania, at Sheikha Bo Idiya Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The result saw Mauritania temporarily go top of Group E of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with five points from three games.
