AFCON AFCON Qualifier: Algeria Through After Stalemate With Zimbabwe

Algeria has booked their place in next year’s AFCON tournament in Cameroon following a 2-2 draw against Zimbabwe in the National Sports Stadium, Harare.

The Dessert Foxes maintained their unbeaten streak since winning the 2019 AFCON tournament in Egypt.

Andy Delort fired the champions in front in the 34th minute before captain Riyad Mahrez doubled the lead in the 34th minute.

However, Algeria failed to hold on to their two goals advantage as Musona pulled one back for the hosts in the 43rd minute before the break.

Both teams failed to make their chances count when the second half resumed and Dube got the equalizer in the 82nd minute to give his side hope.

Algeria remain top of the group with 10 points from four games while Zimbabwe have five points and are second.

The outcome of the second group game between Zambia and Botswana will determine of Zimbabwe will remain second on the table after Matchday 4.
