CAF Champions League Al Ahly defeat Zamalek 2-1 to be crowned CAF Champions League winners

Al Ahly beat fellow Egyptian side Zamalek 2-1 in CAF Champions League final at the Cairo International Stadium. Pitso Mosimane has thus led Egyptian giants Al Ahly to a record-extended ninth CAF Champions League title.

Al Ahly took an early lead in the fifth minute with Amr El Sulaya opening the scoring. Shikabala excelled and brought his teammates from behind equalising for Zamalek in the 31st minute.

Not to be outdone, however, Mohamed Magdi Kafsha gave Al Ahly a 86th-minute lead which they held onto to continue former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor Mosimane’s dream start to his tenure in Egypt.

Pitso Mosimane has thus become the only third coach to have won the illustrious competition with two different clubs.

The others are Argentina-born Oscar Fullone. Also a former Sundowns coach, who won it with ASEC Mimosas and Raja Casablanca. And Egyptian Mahmoud El-Gohary who triumphed with Zamalek and Al Ahly.
