African players abroad Southampton’s On-going Injury Could Help Mohammed Salisu Make His Debut

Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu has been waiting for long to make his debut for Southampton. And the club’s on-going injury situation could open the door for Ghanaian defender. The Saints could be missing up to four key players for their Boxing Day trip to Fulham.

Oriol Romeu is out suspended. And Danny Ings, Jannik Vestergaard and Nathan Redmond are injury doubts having not trained yet this week.

Defender Vestergaard is being assessed after suffering discomfort due to fluid on his knee. While Redmond is a concern due to a muscle problem.

The Southampton’s summer signing is yet to feature for the team since joining them on a four-year deal. He was on move from La Liga side Real Valladolid.

Salisu has had to bide his time to make an appearance for his new club. This is due to a combination of injury and lack of match fitness.

The 21-year-old caught the eye of Southampton with a run of fine performances for Valladolid. Where he made 31 league appearances and scored one goal.
