AFCON AFCON QUALIFIER : Burundi force draw against CAR to leave Group E race tight

Burundi came from the dead to force a 2-2 draw with the Central African Republic (CAR) in a group E match of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Friday afternoon.

At Stade Intwari, Louis Mofouta scored both goals for CAR to take their tally to five points from five games.

First, Mofouta scored for the visitors in the 38th minute to give CAR the lead at half-time.

When play resumed, Mofouta doubled the advantage for CAR in the 52nd minute.

Seven minute later, Saidi Ntibazonkiza scored to reduce the arrears for Burundi before Christophe Nguwarugira equalized with 10 minutes to full-time.

CAR remain bottom with four points from five games while Burundi have five points and they are on third place at par on points with second-placed Mauritania.

Morocco lead on 10 points from four games.

Burundi were without captain, Saido Berahino who will also be unavailable for the last encounter against table-topping Morocco next week.

Burundi coach Jimmy Ndayizeye also made it to the bench having recovered from Covid-19.
