CAF Champions League The ‘Game Of The Century,’ Sundowns Coach Calls Their Clash Against Al Ahly

Mamelodi Sundowns are playing CAF Champions League quarter-final first-leg against Al Ahly this evening. And co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has gone as far as to call name the encounter the game of the century.

Al Ahly were drawn to face Mamelodi Sundowns in the tournament’s quarter-final stage for the third consecutive time. Heading into their most recent clash, both sides hold a victory over their opponents to date.

The first leg is set to take place on Saturday, 15 May (19:00 GMT) at the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo. The second leg is scheduled to be played a week later in Pretoria.

The big talking point since the draw was made has been the fact current Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane is set for a return to his former club Mamelodi Sundowns, where he spent the majority of his coaching career between 2012 and 2020.

“I predict a strong match against one of the continent’s strongest teams and the African champion, which is the same team that we faced before and we couldn’t beat at home,” Mngqithi said.

“Al Ahly have distinguished players such as El-Shennawy…

“We respect Al Ahly and know how dangerous they are.

“I previously worked with Mosimane for six years. And he knows how we think. But we also know how he thinks.

“I consider it the game of the century. Because all of Africa is interested in it. Every team knows the other.

“Facing Mosimane? I respect every coach of any team. We respect Mosimane very much. And he was a member of our system. But let’s see now who will win the last test.” Mngqithi concluded.
