CAF Champions League CAF CL : Wydad Casablanca coach salutes ‘unbelievable’ Kaizer Chiefs defence

Wydad Casablanca coach Faouzi Benzarti has saluted the ‘unbelievable’ defence of Kaizer Chiefs after the two teams drew 0-0 on Saturday night.

We dominated the match, and we used the same tactics that have worked well for us over the years. Chiefs had an unbelievable defence, and we needed a player with class to make the breakthrough.

“We needed a player to put the ball in the net, but the boys just could not do it. We had so many chances,” Benzarti told IOL website of South Africa.

Benzarti said his team stuck to its attacking football philosophy and had no regrets despite bowing out.

“Football is a game to enjoy, and I’ve always set out to make the game as enjoyable as possible. Tonight we didn’t win, and we are all disappointed. I want to congratulate Kaizer Chiefs and wish them good luck in the final,” he added.

Chiefs qualified for the final 1-0 on aggregate after having won the first leg 1-0.

Benzarti said later in the post-match presser that he favoured Esperance to reach the final. Esperance play Al Ahly in the other semi-final. Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has since congratulated his charges saying : “Congratulations to the team. These players brought not only their skills but their hearts and a huge kudos to the technical team.”
