CAF Champions League Mouine Chaabani : “Red card and penalty killed our chances against Al Ahly”

Mouine Chaabani

Esperance head coach Mouine Chaabani bemoans the refereeing decisions as he thinks the red card and the penalty against his team trashed their chances against Al Ahly.

The Tunisian side have lost 3-0 to Al Ahly in Cairo on Saturday night after having lost the first leg of the CAF Champions league semifinal in Tunis (0-1).

However, Chaabani believes nothing but the red card and the penalty refereed against them in the 35th minute as Ilyes Chetti  brought down Taher Mohamed in the penalty box, is the reason of their elimination.

“We are extremely sad to lose the game, but the red and the penalty kick killed our chances”, Mouine Chaabani said after the game as per KingFut.

“The reason we didn’t qualify is the penalty kick and the red card, it’s not the first-leg result or anything else.

“We were better than Al Ahly until the penalty, but we congratulate them and we will be back stronger next year.

After the red card Al Ahly was better because it’s extremely difficult to play a 10vs11 game for around 60 minutes.

“If we had scored early, things could have gone in a different way, but we couldn’t score when we had the chance even when we possessed the ball.

“I am a professional manager, I give everything I can for my team and now is not a good time to speak about my future.
