CAF Champions League Hasaacas Ladies Stuns Rivers Angels To Win WAFU Zone B Qualifiers Tournament

Rivers Angels suffered a 3-1 defeat to Ghanaian side Hasaacas Ladies FC in the final of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League on Thursday, AfricaTopSports reports.

The reigning Nigeria Women Football League(NWFL) champions were hoping to consolidate on their winning streak at the qualifier but were stunned.
Having played and defeated Hasaacas Ladies in Group B before demolishing Amis Du Monde 5-1 in the semi final and where tipped to carry the day in final played at the Stade Robert Champroux in Abidjan.
However, a poor start to the game saw Rivers Angels trailed by 1-0 just few seconds into the game as Veronica Appiah gave the Ghanaian side the lead from a goal mouth scramble.

In the 9th minute, Polinus Ifeoma’s free kick was well utilized by Vivian Ikechukwu who levelled for Rivers Angels in what was her first goal of the tournament.
Rivers Angels took control of the game and looked more determined to pull front but could not do so.
Three minutes left to the first half break, Appiah restored Hasaacas Ladies leaf from a set piece.
Both side headed to the break with the scoreline 2-1 win in favour of the five times Ghanaian Women Football League champions.
Rivers on resumption for the second half pushed for equalizer but could not get it.
In the 68th minute, Azumah Bugre made it 3-1 and extended the lead.
Rivers Angels kept fighting to turn the tide but to no avail as the game ended 3-1, same margin the Nigeria representatives handed their opponent in the opening Group B game.
However, both teams have qualified to represent WAFU Zone B in  the final of the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s
Champions League later this year in Egypt.
