African players abroad Iwobi Impresses Benitez In Everton’s Carabao Cup Victory

Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi’s scored his first goal of the season and helped 10-man Everton to defeat Huddersfield 2-1 and advanced into the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Iwobi put Everton ahead in the first half at the John Smith Stadium but his goal was cancelled out on the stroke of half-time by Tom Lee’s header.
The Toofees were reduced to 10 men on the hour when Moise Kean was shown a straight red card for an altercation off the ball.
Iwobi was involved in the winning goal as he played a one-two with Andres Gomes who crossed the ball into the six-yard box for Townsend to fire into the net in the 80th minute.

Everton manager Rafa Benitez who spoke with the club media after the game said he was pleased with Iwobi and other players performance.
The way that we approached the game, I was quite pleased with.
“We created chances and took control.
“They had more belief after they scored the goal.
“They were pushing after that and then the sending off changed things.
“He is a young player and has to learn from it.
“The reaction from the players was great and you could see the reaction from the fans and how they appreciated it.”
“We know that when you start playing and you can see the team showing commitment the fans will appreciate it.
“The fans know we are trying to improve every single player.
“We are fighting for our club.
“That is very clear and again today they showed their support – that is the main thing for me.
“We are here to do our best every day, every hour.”
