Qatar 2022 Libya come from behind to stun Gabon 2-1

Libya came from behind to beat Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang-led Gabon 2-1 at Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi on Wednesday evening.

Sanad EL Warfali scored the later winner four minutes into injury time as Libya won maximum points in Group F .

Bigoyo Poko had put the visitors ahead after 11 minutes into the match.

However Libya responded through Ali Salama’s 28th minute goal from a header.

The hosts finally snatched the victory when they scored through Warfali after a counter attack to give the Mediterranean Knights maximum points.

Libya underwent camp training in Turkey to fine-tune for the match under the tutelage of Spanish coach Javier Clemente.

After today’s game, Libya will travel to Angola for the second match of the group on Tuesday.

Ahead of the match, Gabon coach Patrice Neveu had assembled a strong squad which the Arsenal captain Aubameyang led.

Neveu recently described the group, which includes Egypt and Angola who are also meeting today in Cairo, as balanced.
