Qatar 2022 Egypt start World Cup qualifying race with win over Angola

Egypt beat Angola 1-0 in a World Cup second round qualifying match played at 30 June Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Egypt had earned a penalty awarded after four minutes following a foul on Ahmed Aboul Fetouh.

From the deadly spot, Mohamed “Afsha” Magdy made no mistake to put the Pharaohs ahead.

Angola tried to work their way back into the game but Egypt managed the match well to protect their lead.

The Pharaohs owe their maiximum points to solid defending especially through goalkeeper Mohamed Elshenawy.

Ahead of the match, Egypt coach Hassam El-Badri had summoned top players such as Al Ahly goalkeeper El Shanawy and striker Mohamed Sherif.

However, Arsenal midfielder Mohamed El Neny and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah were ruled out of the match due to travel restrictions in the United Kingdom in view of Covid-19.

El-Badri hopes that El Neny and Salal will avail themselves for the away game in Gabon on Sunday.

Egypt are now unbeaten in the last six matches they have played in all competitions whereas Angola have in the last five matches lost four, won once and drawn also once.

Angola coach Pedro Gonçalves had featured players such as Portugal-based goalkeeper Aldo Monteiro “Kadú, defenders Bartolomeu Quissanga “Bastos, Inácio Santos, Jonathan Buatu and Núriu Fortuna.
