African players abroad Sparta Rotterdam Issue Update On Super Eagles Keeper Maduka Okoye

Sparta Rotterdam boss Henk Fraser has provided an injury update on Maduka Okoye that would be sweet music to the ears of Super Eagles fans and Nigeria’s interim boss Augustine Eguavoen.

Okoye has been inactive for the Rotterdam club since suffering a shoulder injury during the first half of an Eredivisie clash against Ajax Amsterdam on November 28.

Manager Fraser brought a piece of good news for Super Eagles and Sparta Rotterdam fans during Friday’s press briefing before the visit of Vitesse Arnhem, saying that Okoye could make his comeback on Saturday evening.

Benjamin van Leer and Tim Coremans have shared goalkeeping duties during Okoye’s spell on the sidelines, and have conceded five goals combined in the last three matches played by Sparta.

It is going well. There is a very good chance that Okoye is back.” Fraser said in quotes relayed by public broadcaster RTV Rijnmond.

The other keepers (Benjamin van Leer and Tim Coremans, ed.) have done a great job. But Okoye is our undisputed number one“. Added the manager.

Time will tell if Okoye retains his position as Nigeria’s number one at the Africa Cup of Nations following the dismissal of Gernot Rohr, who fast-tracked him into the Super Eagles.
