Hughton (63) has been out of work since September, when he was sacked by Nottingham Forest. But there is still interest in the former Brighton and Norwich boss. He landed in Ghana for talks with their FA earlier this week about the vacancy of national team boss.

Ghana, ranked 52nd in the world, are in crisis after a dismal showing at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon, where they managed just one point from three games. This poor perfomance led to the sacking of the Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac.

Hughton has a strong link with Ghana as his father, Willie, was from there. And he has often spoken of his links with the African nation.
