Malawi Bullets, Silver to kickstart Malawi domestic season

Nyasa Big Bullets welcome Silver Strikers in the NBS Charity Shield match at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Saturday afternoon.

The match between the TNM Super League champions Bullets and the FDH Cup winner Silver will set the domestic season in motion in Malawi.

Thereafter, the TNM Super League season will kick off on March 19.

Saturday’s match offers Bullets coach Kalisto Pasuwa an opportunity to analyse his new recruits such as defender Hadji Wali and Mphatso Magaleta.

Bullets have also promoted players from the reserve side such as Patrick Mwaungulu to replace the eight-plus players who were offloaded.

Pasuwa has since called for patience, saying he is rebuilding them team with the up and coming players.

The Zimbabwean, who would be gunning for a fourth consecutive league title under his reign, said Silver would offer his side a perfect test of character.

Silver Strikers are not an opponent to underrate and if you can analyze all the games, we have played against them, it was an end to end packed action with entertaining football,” Pasuwa said.

Last week, Bullets started their pre-season journey with a 2-1 loss to newly promoted Sable Farming FC.

Surely, the meeting with Silver promises fireworks.

Silver look sharp as they won 2-0 against Mighty Tigers in the last friendly they played last week with Chawanangwa Kaonga scoring both goals.

Kaonga has rejoined Silver from South Africa TS Sporting and should offer coach Dan Kabwe more firepower upfront.

The striker has joined Silver alongside the likes of defender Hardy Ng’andu, formerly of Chitipa United.

Striker Maxwell Gasten showed promise last season and he is among the players to look out for in this game.

Proceeds from the Charity Shield will go towards victims of floods that damaged some areas of the Southern Region.
