Africa Soccer GFA announces new Stadium for Ghana vs Nigeria World Cup Playoff

Baba Yara Stadium

Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced Cape Coast Stadium will no longer host the Ghana vs Nigeria clash in World Cup playoffs later this month.

“The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has granted a one match approval for Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to host the World Cup Qatar 2022 play-off match between Ghana and Nigeria”, the FA announced.

The approval comes after critics over the poor state of Cape Coast Stadium pitch after the celebration of Ghana’s 65th Independence anniversary on it, and a visit by a CAF Licensing Inspector at the Baba Yara Stadium to see the feasibility of hosting the game there.

However, “the [Baba Yara]stadium is automatically removed from the list of CAF approved stadiums and will only be approved for any subsequent CAF/FIFA international senior national teams matches and CAF men’s interclubs competitions following the implementation of all the CAF remarks”, CAF added.

In addition, Ghana Black Stars squad is yet to be announced their squad for this important tie against Super Eagles with reports claiming Otto Addo may not release it until the matchday as a “strategy”.
