Malawi Super League Tigers coach attributes 7-game winless run to blunt striking force

Waka Waka Tigers coach Trevor Kajawa has attributed the TNM Super League team’s seven-game winless run to a poor finishing.

Kajawa said this in a post-match interview after Tigers home 1-0 loss to Silver Strikers at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre on Saturday afternoon.

It is unfortunate that we lost. We are not playing badly and now that we have a sponsor, we may need to patch up the squad. I think we are blunt upfront. We are building a team and in the process of building a team, you always have a bad patch,” he said.

Winger Duncan Nyoni scored the only goal of the game on the half hour mark at Mpira Stadium in the commercial capital Blantyre.

Tigers should have equalised on the stroke of half time but Precious Chiudza’s header went over the bar.

In the second half, Silver caretaker coach MacDonald Yobe pulled out injured Nyoni for Chawanangwa Kaonga.

The winger Kaonga had a chance to increase Silver’s lead but he blasted the ball over the bar.

Tigers are now winless in seven consecutive games in the league.

Silver are on fourth position on the 16 member log table with 20 points while Tigers sit 11th on 15 points.

In other games, Ekwendeni Hammers drew 1-1 with Blue Eagles who are now winless in five consecutive games whereas Red Lions beat Moyale Barracks 2-1. Elsewhere, Mafco and Mukuru Wanderers shared the spoils at 1-1.
