Nigeria AFCON U23 Qualifier: Makinde Promises U23 Rain Of Naira To Beat Tanzania

Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, and the Nigeria Football Federation have altered the narratives ahead of Saturday’s exciting Africa U23 Cup of Nations match between Nigeria and Tanzania by adding $55,000 and N10 million to the Olympic Eagles’ financial pot.

Agodi presented the players and officials with N10 million at the dinner he hosted for the Nigeria U23 team at the Government House.

He also promised to give the team a further N25,000 should they defeat Tanzania and advance to the next round of qualifiers, where they would play the winner of the match between Uganda and Guinea.

Prior to him, Alhaji Aminu Balele Kurfi, the head of the NFF Task Force on Youth Competitions, gave the squad $10,000 through head coach Salisu Yusuf, which represented half of the prize money he had promised them if they defeated Tanzania in the first leg in Dar es Salaam. $10,000 was earned by the 1-1 tie.

Balele also promised the team $20,000 should they defeat Tanzania in Ibadan on Saturday.

This prompted Governor Makinde to add another $25,000 to his pledge.

“I am coming to the stadium with the cash; so, it is not a go-and-come-back promise.

“I will give you the money once you achieve victory,” Makinde said as players and officials, and members of the Oyo State Executive Council, Board Members and Management of the NFF, and NFF congressmen cheered.

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Alhaji Sharif Rabiu Inuwa, Otunba Sunday Dele-Ajayi, Alhaji Babagana Kalli, Oyo State Sports Commissioner Seun Fakorede, NRA President Otunba Tade Azeez, NFF Congressmen, Oyo State Football Association Chairman Kabiyesi James Odeniran, and Management Staff of the NFF were also present.

Remember that earlier on Friday, Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa promised the Olympic Eagles that he would pay N500,000 for each goal scored in the nail-biting match between the two teams on Saturday at the Lekan Salami Stadium.
