Liverpool UCL: Salah, Nunez Help Liverpool To Claim Win Against Napoli

With their victory at Anfield, Liverpool broke Napoli’s unblemished Champions League record, but they still finished second in Group A.

Darwin Nunez’s late goal, which snapped the impressive Serie A leaders’ undefeated 21-game run, will boost Jurgen Klopp’s team’s spirits after their Saturday home loss to Leeds United.

Although Liverpool never had a chance to defeat Napoli, who have completely dominated the group, by the four goals they would have required, these three points will do wonders for their confidence.

In the first half, Thiago Alcantara forced Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret into a save. In the second half, Napoli appeared to have taken the lead, but a thorough video assistant referee (VAR) review determined that defender Leo Ostigard’s header from a free-kick was offside.

With five minutes remaining, Mohamed Salah drove home a close-range strike, and Nunez added the insurance goal in stoppage time to give Liverpool the victory in a game of limited chances.
