Kenya My future at AFC Leopards not important than winning trophy – Aussems

AFC Leopards coach Patrick Aussems believes his future at the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League outfit is not an urgent matter than helping the team to win silverware this season.

Having already given up on chasing for the league title this campaign, AFC have still another chance to wrap up the season with a trophy as they are in the semi-finals of the Mozzart Bet FKF Cup where they will face Kakamega Homeboyz on Saturday.

Recent media reports have linked Aussems, who joined AFC Leopards in 2021, with a move away from the Den, and ahead of the fixture against Homeboyz, he discussed his future.

“You know it is really not the time to talk about my future, we are focusing on the next game, a good exciting game and we will have time to talk about my future later,” said the Belgian, who before landing at AFC had handled Tanzania Premier League giants Simba SC.

“My future is not important you know, the most important is that I would like to help those good and exciting AFC players to win something, if it is not this season, I hope it will be next season if I am still there.”

Ingwe last won a title in 2017 when they beat Kariobangi Sharks 2-0 to clinch the FKF Shield Cup and earn a ticket to represent the country in the Caf Confederation Cup.

Ingwe will, however, head into the Ingo derby against Western rivals Homeboyz with their heads held high having defeated rivals Gor Mahia 2-1 in the Mashemeji derby at the same venue last Sunday.

Homeboyz defeated Kariobangi Sharks 6-1 in the quarter-finals to reach the last four while AFC thumped Bandari 3-0 to sail through. The other semi-final clash will pit Tusker against Ulinzi Stars.
