Africa Soccer CAFCL: Esperance Faces Uphill Task Against Al Ahly In Cairo

In their CAF Champions League semifinal against the seasoned Al Ahly team on Friday night at the Cairo International Stadium, Esperance Tunis will need to overcome a 3-0 overall score.

Al Ahly made their supremacy over Esperance Tunis clear last week Friday at Stade Olympique de Rades by defeating the Tunisian outfit by a score of three. This was aided by an inspired Percy Tau.

After eluding the Esperance left-back with a sneaky run into the penalty area in the eighth minute, Tau scored the game’s first goal.

After putting the ball in the net, Al Ahly went on to create a lot of scoring chances but were unable to increase their lead in the first half.

The South African then completed his brace in 55th minute, while Mahmoud Kahraba added gloss to the scoreline in capping off a swift counter-attacking move in minute 75.

Esperance’s losing streak now stands at three games across all competitions as they struggle to find their form during a crucial part of their campaign.

Esperance, who is playing as the host team, has lost its last three home CAF Champions League games; its most recent triumph came in February with a 2-0 success over Zamalek.

More concerningly for Esperance, the ES Tunis’s head-to-head record versus Al Ahly is not encouraging.
