FIFA World Cup FIFA U20WC: Argentina smash New Zealand to finish top of group

Argentina rounded off their Group A campaign with a resounding 5-0 victory against New Zealand at Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario on Saturday.

The Albicelestes took control of the game from the onset and they raced onto a 3-0 half-time lead courtesy of goals from Ignacio Maestro Puch in the 14th minute, Gino Infantino in the 17th minute and Luka Romero in the 35th minute.

Brian Aguirre added the fourth in the 50th minute from the penalty spot before substitute Alejo Veliz put the icing on the cake with a well-taken effort in the 86th minute.

Argentina under Javier Mascherano dominated the proceedings of the game tearing New Zealand into shreds. They should have won the fixture by more than five goals.

Argentina, who had already qualified for the round of 16 with a match to spare, are now topping their group with a maximum of six points from three matches, while Uzbekistan finished second with four points after defeating Guatemala 2-0 in their final group fixture.
