FIFA World Cup FIFA U20WC: Brazil smash four past Tunisia to reach quarters

Brazil ended Africa representatives Tunisia’s fairytale run at the U20 Fifa World Cup after registering a 4-1 victory in their round of 16 fixture at Estadio Ciudad de La Plata on Wednesday.

Marcos Leonardo put the Selecao ahead in the 11th minute before Andrey Santos drilled home the second in the 31st minute for a comfortable lead at the half-time break.

On resumption, Brazil were reduced to 10 men after Robert Renan was sent off following a clumsy foul. However, substitute Matheus Martins Silva dos Santos added the third in the stoppages before Andrey Santos sealed the victory with a well-taken effort in the added minutes.

Tunisia pulled a goal back in added minutes courtesy of defender Mahmoud Ghorbel but it was not enough to stop Brazil from storming the last eight of the competition.

Tunisia were pooled in Group E and they kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 defeat against England, they recovered to beat Iraq 3-0 but qualified for the last 16 despite losing 1-0 against Uruguay in their final group fixture.

Brazil will come up against Israel in the last-eight fixture at Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario on Saturday. Israel stormed the last eight after edging out Uzbekistan 1-0 in the other contest at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas.
