Tanzania Mayele, Ntibazonkiza share Golden Boot on final day

Young Africans (Yanga SC) forward Fiston Mayele and Simba SC’s Saidi Ntibazonkiza tied on the top scorers’ chart as the Tanzanian Premier League campaign came to an end on Friday.

The two players finished with 17 goals each. This was after Mayele found the back of the net as Yanga defeated Tanzania Prisons 2-0 in their final fixture of the season while Ntibazonkiza scored two as Simba beat Coastal Union 3-1.

According to TPLB Chief Executive Officer Almasi Kasongo, they will follow some other guidelines to decide, who carries the Golden Boot.

Kasongo said: “There are some guidelines which will be considered during the meeting before naming the Golden Boot hero of the season.”

During last season’s league, Mayele contested the Golden Boot Award with George Mpole, who was featuring for Geita Gold FC and Mpole won the award after scoring 17 goals while Mayele scored 16 goals.

Meanwhile, Yanga were finally presented with the trophy after the win against Tanzania Prisons at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya. Goals in either half from Mayele and Yannick Bangala Litombo ensured the Jangwani Street-based giants finished the season with 78 points from 30 matches, five points clear ahead of second-placed and rivals Simba SC, who amassed 73 points.

Azam FC came third with 59 points, Singida Big Stars managed a fourth-place finish with 55 points while Namungo FC bagged the fifth spot with 40 points. In doing so, Yanga became the most successful club in Tanzania as they have won 29 league titles in history.
