UEFA Nations League Joselu Late Goal Sends Spain To Nations League Against Croatia

After defeating Italy 2-1 on Thursday, Spain secured a spot in their second straight Nations League championship with a fortunate last-minute goal from substitute Joselu.

After losing to France in the championship game two years ago, coach Luis de la Fuente’s team will play Croatia in the decisive match on Sunday in Rotterdam.

Italy will compete against the Netherlands, the bronze medalists.

Yeremy Pino’s calm finish in the opening three minutes allowed Spain to take advantage of a defensive blunder.

However, Italy’s Ciro Immobile scored his country’s first goal in two years from the penalty spot after rookie Robin Le Normand touched the ball in the box.

As both teams ran out of options to score, extra time appeared inevitable.

Perhaps appropriately, it was initiated in peculiar circumstances when Rodri’s furious strike rebounded off two defenders and dropped pleasantly for Joselu to nudge home from four yards.
