Transfer window Done Deal: Vipers SC swoop for Brazilian Luiz Otavio Santos de Araujo

Ugandan Premier League champions Vipers SC have continued with their transfer activities this time, the arrival of Brazilian Luiz Otavio Santos de Araujo ahead of the new season.

Araujo, who has penned down a two-year contract with the Venoms – until 2025, becomes the second Brazilian to sign for the Ugandan giants after they recently acquired the services of Giancarlo Lopez Rodriguez.

A statement on Vipers’ official website confirmed the arrival of Araujo: “With Giancarlo Lopez Rodriguez still finding his footing as the first Brazilian player at Kitende, we have swooped in another man from the land of Samba football,” adding: “Luiz Otavio Santos de Araujo alias Tinga, is the latest Brazilian in town and has penned down a two-year employment contract with the Venoms – until 2025.”

The defensive midfielder is a former Brazilian U20 international, who made six official caps for the Selecao at that level. The right-footer, not only boasts a desirable height (1.73m) but also has great versatility as he can play at right-back as well.

Araujo’s senior career dates back to 2010 at Ponte Preta, Palmeiras (2011-2013) with short spells at Ceara SC and Figueirense during that time. In 2013, he departed Palmeiras for Avai FC (Brazilian Serie A) where he spent a year before joining Jubilo lwata in Japan. He rejoined the former in 2015. The midfielder then joined Suphanburi FC in Thailand for another short spell before going back home to Joinville SC.

Other sides he has featured for include Santo Andre, CRB, Umm Salai SC, Vila Nova FC, Santa Cruz, and Volta Redonda. His most recent adventures had him at Brusque in 2021, Botafogo PB in 2022, with his most recent team being Marcilio Dias this year, and becomes the club’s fourth signing of the ongoing transfer window after Rodriguez, Richard Matovu, and David Bagoole.
