Nigeria Naija Super 8: Sporting Lagos Beat Remo Stars To Be Crowned Champions

Sporting Lagos defeated Remo Stars in the Naija Super 8 championship game on penalties to win the title for the first time at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium,Lagos State.

A pulsating South-West derby clash between both teams lived up to expectations but it was the Lagos-based club that once again proved to become the new king despite being founded just two years ago.

After a goalles draw in the first half, Sporting Lagos broke the deadlock in he 52nd minute through Aliu Saludeen.

The game became more intensed as Remo Stars began to throw more men up front in a bid to equalize.

Substitute, Adams Olamilekan thought he had leveled for the Sky Blues but the flag was raised for an offside.

However, in the added time, his goal stood as he guided a low cross from Alimi Sikiru to equalize as the Onikan stadium erupted.

The referee brought the game to close after both teams settled for 1-1at regular time.

The newly promoted Nigeria Premier League (NPL) side defeated Remo Stars 4-2 in penalty to be crowned the champion of the maiden edition of the Naija Super 8 which featured teams from all the geopolitical zones including reigning NPL champions, Enyimba FC.

Sporting Lagos received N25 million as the star prize for emerging winner, while Remo received N9 million as runners up.
