Premier League Onana reveals why he choose no.24 jersey at Man United

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has explained the reason why he has chosen the no.24 shirt.

The 27-year-old Cameroon international, who joined the Red Devils from Inter Milan, had the option of picking the no.1, which was vacated by David De Gea when he left Old Trafford at the end of last season but he instead, settled for the jersey number 24.

“I just like that number. It’s my birthday. My date of birth,” Onana said as quoted by the club’s official website, adding: “For me it’s great, it’s beautiful I like this shirt because [in] this shirt, this number we have done a lot and I hope it will continue.”

Onana wore the number 24 jersey during his time at Inter, with Samir Handanovic having the number one jersey, and he also donned it at Ajax too. While in Eredivisie, Onana wore the jersey when he first arrived at the club and, following a disappointing single season wearing number one in 2017-18, he reverted back to his favoured jersey number the following campaign.

Onana had an excellent campaign in last season’s Champions League, playing very well in the final against Manchester City and earning the praise of Pep Guardiola.
