FIFA WOMEN'S WORLD CUP FIFAWWC: Spain On The Wheel As Zambia Trail 2-0 In First Half

Zambia are on the verge of exiting the FIFA Women’s World Cup as they trailed 2-0 against Spain in the first half of their second group B game.

The Shepolopolo suffered a 5-0 pummelling at the hands of Japan in their first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup and are yet to score any goal in the completion.

Spain started the game on the front foot and looking for an early goal as Zambia player, Musesa miscued a clearance, but Spain player Hermoso was caught on her heels and couldn’t get there ahead of Sakala.

Spain got their game plan right as Abelleira scored in the 9th minute to give Spain the lead.

The Spaniard intricately worked the goal from the left back to the edge of the box where Abelleira was given too much space.

She took a touch before getting her head up and fires a brilliant effort into the near top corner, giving Sakala no chance.

Hermoso who made her 100th appearance doubled the lead four minutes later after the Zambia defence was cut wide open and Putellas was given so much space on the left of the box.

She chipped a good cross to the far post where Hermoso had a free header into the back of the net from close range.

Although Zambia began to get more into the game as Captain, Barbra Banda who made her first appearance caused Spain a few problems with her high press from the front but it’s not enough to put the Spain back line on their toes.

Zambia made two substitution before the first half as Chitundu replaced Mapepa while Susan Banda never came back to the pitch after she received her second lot of treatment, with Wilombe taking her place.

Zambia thought they had a penalty when Paredes slided in on Banda in the box, but the referee pointed for a corner.

The Shepolopolo must have to do better in the second half to avoid another huge defeat as they trail 2-0 going to the dressing room.
