Dstv Premiership DSTV Premiership: Maema’s Late Goal Hands Mamelodi Victory Against Chiefs

With a 2-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday afternoon at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, Mamelodi Sundowns continued their unblemished start to the DStv Premiership season.

The Brazilians took the lead midway through the first half thanks to a goal from Lucas Ribeiro for the second game in a row, but Ashley Du Preez’s equalizer seven minutes from time appeared to seal a draw for them.

Molefi Ntseki is still looking for his first victory as the Soweto Giants’ manager after Neo Maema came off the bench to score a stunning last-second winner for Rulani Mokwena’s side.

After defeating Sekhukhune United 2-1 last Friday, Sundowns was seeking to improve to two wins from two to start the season, while Chiefs got things going with a 0-0 draw against Chippa United two days earlier.

The home team wasted little time in trying to score the first goal, and Ribeiro had two tries in the opening minutes. In the fifth minute, he pulled a shot from distance just wide of the right post, and seven minutes later, he tested Brandon Petersen with a low shot.

Peter Shalulile’s pass was intercepted by Ribeiro, who then finished expertly from inside the box into the bottom left corner of the goal to give the Yellow Nation the lead shortly after.
