Harry Kane made his official Bayern Munich debut, coming on as a substitute in the club’s crushing 3-0 defeat to German Cup winners RB Leipzig in the Super Cup final in Munich on Saturday.
The 30-year-old came on in the second half to a rousing ovation from the crowd at the Allianz Arena. However, it wasn’t enough as the club dropped its season opener. RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo scored a hat trick as the German side won its first Super Cup.
Kane watched on with a worried look on his face as Olmo scored two goals inside the opening 44 minutes to fire RB Leipzig 2-0 up. Olmo’s second was a brilliant goal that Kane would have been proud of. The Spain striker spun Matthijs de Ligt with a brilliant turn before coolly slotting a shot past Sven Ulreich.

Sixty-three minutes into the game, Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel played his trump card by throwing on Kane in place of teenager Mathys Tel. But Bayern were 3-0 down before Kane touched the ball. Olmo completed his hat-trick for Leipzig from a 68th-minute penalty kick awarded for a Noussair Mazraoui handball.
Kane left Tottenham Hotspur, the club he had spent the past 19 years playing for, to sign a reported $126 million transfer deal with Bayern Munich. He was Tottenham’s all-time record goalscorer – 280 goals in 435 appearances in all competitions but despite all his goals for Tottenham, he did not win a trophy with the club.
The England striker, who failed to register a single shot during his 30 minutes of the game, will likely make his Bundesliga debut away at Werder Bremen on Friday.
