Transfer window Lavia Turns Down Liverpool Set To Join Chelsea

Romeo Lavia prefers to sign with Chelsea despite Liverpool having agreed to a £60 million agreement to acquire the Southampton midfielder.

Although Southampton and Chelsea have not yet reached an agreement for the midfielder, one is reportedly close.

According to sources cited by Sky Sports News, the entire settlement reached between Liverpool and Southampton on Sunday night is approximately £60 million.

Moises Caicedo left Brighton for Stamford Bridge for a British record $115 million, and Liverpool already lost out on him to Chelsea.

The 21-year-old told Liverpool he only wanted to join Chelsea after Brighton accepted a £111 million bid from Liverpool.

Lavia, a 19-year-old, was valued at £50 million by Southampton, who had been standing by that figure.

Liverpool had already had three proposals rejected this summer when Chelsea launched its £48 million bid last week.

Chelsea wants to sign two midfielders during this transfer window, and negotiations to buy Tyler Adams from Leeds United ended last week due to the parties’ inability to come to an agreement.

Lavia, who joined Southampton from Manchester City last summer with four years left on his contract, is anticipated to leave after Saints were kicked out of the Premier League last year.

The Belgian international was not a substitute for Southampton’s opening-night victory over Sheffield Wednesday, nor was he included in the squad for the team’s defeat in the Carabao Cup at Gillingham on Tuesday or Saturday’s 4-4 draw with Norwich.
