Premier League Man City’s Kevin de Bruyne undergoes surgery on injury

Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has had surgery on a hamstring injury that could keep him out of action for four months.

The Belgium international, 32, limped off 23 minutes into City’s 3-0 Premier League win at Burnley on 11 August. He confirmed the news on his social media pages by saying: “The news after the Burnley game was a really big blow for me physically and mentally,” adding: “Now the surgery is done I’m ready to heal my body and get back to work soon. Thank you all for the support.”

Before facing Sevilla in UEFA Super Cup, Man City manager Pep Guardiola said on De Bruyne’s injury: “It’s a serious injury,” adding: “We have to decide on surgery but he will be a few months out.”

Asked when the decision would be taken, he revealed: “In the next days. Surgery would be, I don’t know, three or four months out. First of all, the injury to Kevin is a blow and a big loss for us,” he continued.

“Kevin has specific qualities. You can lose it for one or two games but for a long time, this is tough for us. But we have to look forward and we have alternatives there at other options. [There are] opportunities now for the other ones – life gives you that – and I am pretty sure they will take it.”

Man City will face Newcastle United in their next league assignment.
