La Liga Santander Girona Defeat Barca To Hand Madrid La Liga Title

After Girona rallied to defeat Barcelona 4-2, Real Madrid won a record-tying 36th La Liga title on Saturday, giving Carlo Ancelotti’s team an unstoppable lead in the standings.

With four games left, Real Madrid, who have only lost once in the league this year, leads Girona by 13 points in second place, while Barcelona has slid to third.

Girona qualified for the Champions League the next season, and the victory also guaranteed them a place in Europe for the first time.

Substitute Portu scored twice to help surprise package Girona defeat their Catalan rivals.

Barca took the lead in the third minute thanks to a goal from Andreas Christiansen.

Girona responded a minute later with a header from La Liga leader Artem Dovbyk to tie the score. Just before the half, Robert Lewandowski scored from the penalty spot to give the visitors a lead again.

But Portu scored the equaliser in the 65th minute, his first goal after coming off the bench, and Miguel Gutierrez added the advantage two minutes later following a rebound.

The victory was sealed in the 74th minute by a magnificent volley by Portu.
