Premier League Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister red card vs Bournemouth overturned

Alexis Mac Allister will be available for Liverpool’s next game after the club’s appeal against his red card during Saturday’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth was overturned.

Mac Allister was sent off in the 58th minute after catching the left ankle of Cherries midfielder Ryan Christie with the bottom of his left boot after both players had attempted to play the ball. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was baffled by the decision to dismiss Mac Allister and said after the game: “We will talk to the people about it.”

A statement on Liverpool’s website confirmed: “Alexis Mac Allister will not serve a suspension after a successful appeal against the red card he received during Saturday’s victory over AFC Bournemouth,” adding: “The Liverpool midfielder was sent off in the second half of the Premier League fixture following a tackle on Ryan Christie. A club appeal against the suspension has now been upheld by an Independent Regulatory Commission, meaning Mac Allister is eligible for selection when the Reds travel to Newcastle United on Sunday.”

Mac Allister was initially handed a three-game suspension by the FA – which would have seen him miss matches against Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Wolves – but that ban has since been completely wiped.
