Tennis US Open: Birthday Girl Jabeur Powers Into Second Round

Ons Jabeur of Tunisia defeated Camila Osorio of Colombia in straight sets on Tuesday to go to the second round of the US Open despite a health scare.

Jabeur won her first match at the US Open on the Louis Armstrong Stadium, kicking up her run for a maiden Grand Slam title following three painful final losses since 2022.

After Osorio rallied from a 4-1 deficit to tie the match at 4-4 in the first set, the 29-year-old appeared to be having trouble breathing and complained to the chair umpire.

After falling behind 5-4 in the first set, Jabeur required medical attention. It also seemed like she had her blood pressure measured during a timeout.

She later came back to win the first set, and after holding two match points with the score 5-3 in the second set, it looked like she was going to seal the deal.

However, Osorio fought back to avoid losing and, after breaking Jabeur, levelled the score at 5-5.

Jabeur soon broke back to take a 6-5 advantage, but he was broken again to force a tie break in the second set.

Osorio was defeated by Jabeur in the tiebreaker, though, and will now play Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic.
