AFCON Afcon 2023: Zambia’s Kings Kangwa sends warning to Comoros

Zambia international Kings Kangwa has promised to score against Comoros when the two sides face off in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture at Stade Ominisports de Malouzini on Saturday.

The Chipolopolo Boys have already qualified for the 2023 AFCON with a match to spare alongside hosts Ivory Coast while eliminated Comoros and Lesotho will now shift their attention to 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Zambia sits on 12 points in first position followed by Ivory Coast in second position with 10 points, Comoros in third with six points, and Lesotho on one point at the foot of the table.

According to Red Star Belgrade player Kangwa, who helped Zambia beat Comoros 2-1 with his well-taken free-kick at Lusaka’s Heroes Stadium on match-day two, Chipolopolo will take the clash seriously. He said: “It is an important match despite having already qualified. We know our targets and goals, so we are going there to win,” adding: “I remember I scored against this team [Comoros], and even this time around I’m looking forward to scoring against them.”

Kangwa is also of the view that the match will help Zambia prepare for the upcoming assignments such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers which will start in November. “We are asking the president [FAZ President] to organize good friendly matches to help us prepare well for upcoming assignments,” he stated.

The Chipolopolo Boys are currently in camp preparing for the final fixture of the Africa Cup qualifiers. Some notable players in camp include Leicester City striker Patson Daka, AYR United defender Frankie Musonda, Benson Sakala, and Rally Bwalya of Mlada Boleslav and Sekhukhune respectively.
